Ignorance is a Choice-

In the age of information, ignorance is a choice. – Dr. Joe Dispenza.

Do you still think that you’re an alcoholic because alcoholism is in your genes? Do you still buy the phrase so often and haphazardly repeated in AA…? “Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic.” Like I quoted Dr. Dispenza a sentence ago, ignorance is a choice because we know better.

Your genes are merely a blueprint for your cells and have no actual power until that blueprint is activated or expressed. Genes are only expressed based on the conditions of their environment, and believe it or not, most of that environment is created in your head. If your thought creates your environment, then why would someone continue to call themselves an alcoholic and expect to recover?

This means that you have complete control over how your genes are expressed, including the genes responsible for addiction, whether you like it or not. Sorry… no more handing your power over to your addiction. We’ve been doing it all wrong.

How did I recover? I changed the expression of the alcoholic gene by doing the exact opposite of what an alcoholic would do.

From the ages 0-7, our brains are vibrating in a theta, or hypnosis state, which means that most of our patterns and behaviors we have as adults were learned in this hypnosis state way back when we were children. We are still making decisions based on the programs and patterns we learned before we were only seven years old, but the problem is that we don’t know much of how we understood the information we were taking in at that time. Crazy right?

For the most part, we don’t even notice that we might be operating out of some irrational fear of something. Too many people just go about their day and try to ignore how they’re feeling, and unfortunately, most of us don’t take enough time out of the day for ourselves to shut off the world and recoup or even notice our traits. As adults, being mindful of these behavioral programs and patterns is very important because they effect how you think and how you feel every day. Have you ever wondered why you continue to take certain actions even though they repeatedly fail? That’s the age 0-7 programming that’s running without your conscious knowledge.

From age eight and up, we start taking the program we learned in hypnosis, and model our behaviors to the best of our knowledge, creating our personalities. We start off basing decisions on our perception of what we have seen, and if our perception of the world is misinterpreted, it can lead a life of making decisions out of fear, which causes problems in your life. Most times, this leads to anxiety about the life you created, which can lead to an addiction problem as you try to drown out, and run from, all those problems created by your program.

I smashed my old habits and behaviors and created a new program that includes meditation, clean eating, and some other simple lifestyle changes, that can help just about anyone recover from their addictions in weeks. Meditating can help you break those negative and unwanted patterns by allowing you to let go of negativity and the constant stream of information we download into our brains every day.

Here’s the thing- Your thought has everything to do with your environment and your environment has everything to do with your genes. This was realized by Dr. Bruce Lipton way back in 1970, and it took until 1990 to coin the term “epigenetics”.

He realized this by doing an experiment where he took one stem cell and let it replicate until there were 30,000 identical cells. He split them up into three different petri dishes, with three different culture mediums (environments), and the cells started growing very differently in each environment. In one dish, the cells grew into bone, another grew fat, and the third was muscle, all from identical cells. Since all the cells were identical, he realized that it was the environment was the cause of the gene expression of what the cells were to become.

This means that everything we’ve heard about how our genes have all this power and control over our destiny is complete and total bullshit along with the old ideologies of twelve-step programs.

Changing the Program-

So, what’s the best way to change the programming that led you to create a life your trying to ruin with alcohol? STOP. That’s right… STOP.

Just for one day, stop watching the news, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and probably 90% of your phone calls and texts because that’s where we are confirming the programming that is causing us to create a life we want to run from. Let go of everything for one day and pay attention to how you’re really feeling so you can put things into perspective.

I wrote an article called “Staying Sober with a Kindergarten Mentality” that explains how I had to drop my old limiting beliefs to start being able to take in new information that I may have had a negative opinion about. I started looking at everything with a new pair of eyes, and it felt like I was learning for the first time, just like I was in kindergarten.

The point of this is to start creating new connections in your brain (neuroplasticity), so you can start sending new signals to different genes, so the alcoholic gene will no longer be expressed. Your brain makes new connections as you learn, no matter what age you are.

Bad Interpretations-

The only thing 97% of AA sponsors know is how to make it 24 hours without a drink, and these are the people that are supposed to be giving you advice about your life. Good intentions are great but when someone is trying their very best to convince you that YOU ARE AN ALCOHOLIC FOREVER, you may want to look somewhere else for guidance.

Twelve-step programs believe that alcoholism is a disease that you’re stricken with for life once you get it, and the only way to ‘sort of’ recover (live with it) is to scare the hell out of yourself by surrendering your power over to your addictions, and then repeating, over and over again, in unison with other people that all of you are alcoholics for life, and you’ll be in this dysfunctional lifestyle forever. How much codependency would you like to create in your life because that’s exactly what’s happening, and you’re still not confident around alcohol.

Cure cover

I have nothing against AA or any members, but the ideology in these meetings that you can’t ever fully recover from alcoholism is nonsense. Repetition is the best way to train your brain after age seven and if you’re repeating that you’re an alcoholic several times per week it’s actually sending a signal to the alcoholic gene to stay on alert. This is so important to me, because I watched people like my parents believe these things, give up hope, and end up in the cemetery. Unfortunately, this information was not as studied or widespread twenty years ago, but now that we have so much scientific data on epigenetics, ignorance to how important your mind set is for your health is now a choice.

If there is anything that I want anyone to take from reading this is that you don’t have to struggle with your addictions for the rest of your life. So, you messed up your life for the moment… so what? If you really loved that life so much, do you think you would have done your very best to sabotage it with alcohol? Probably not…

This is the perfect opportunity to reinvent yourself because that’s what your alcoholism was telling you to do… reinvent yourself. We created these lives out of our misunderstood programs and something inside of us is telling us that we need to change something or at least chill out and pay attention to ourselves. Maybe that’s why it’s best to do the opposite of what your alcoholic self would do to change the expression of your genes. Your mind and body are smarter than you think, so take recovery as a sign that you’re doing the right thing. Your body will push back at first from all the negativity that comes along with alcoholism, but if you don’t fight it and just let yourself recover, you’ll be just fine in a few weeks.

Thank you for reading this because now that you have even a little bit of knowledge, you can hold yourself accountable for your actions and your life and stop feeling like your happiness depends on programs and other people. Human beings are super powerful because of our thought and consciousness and there is no person or addiction in the world that can take that away from you.

Have a powerful day and love yourself!

Having major success with the process I used to overcome addiction and alcoholism, I realized that I have much to share. I failed repeatedly with 12 step and conventional recovery programs and knew that there had to be a better answer. I believe that recovery should NOT take an entire lifetime to complete. I wanted to find or create a process that would not only cure my addictions, but also make me a healthy human being. What I came up with is a way to change the expression of the alcoholic gene! My methods and ideas, although slightly unconventional, have proved to be far more successful than any public programs I have come across. It doesn't take a lot of money to cure yourself. It takes an open mind, some desire, and the knowledge that very soon, you will no longer struggle with addiction or alcoholism.
