For myself, the road to recovery was a lot like going through a haunted house. It could be a haunted house, haunted mansion, or even a haunted forest… whatever you want. The point is that there’s a beginning and an end, with a whole lot of scary shit in between. Think about how you might […]
Getting sober can seem tricky, and the reason it seems that way is because we think we know it all, but we could not be farther from the truth. We figure that we’re adults and we’ve gotten this far, so we tend to rely on what we think we know to get us even further. […]
I’ve been observing a lot of my own behaviors trying to connect them with something I may have learned in the past that I kept repeating, that eventually turned out to be something negative, like selfishness. I observe something like anger or frustration and take that feeling back in time to see if I’m reacting […]
I always talk about finding the root of the problem when it comes to why I became an alcoholic, and part of that is finding the source of the justifications that I used to try and protect my alcoholism. “I’m only dinking because I had a bad day at work and I need to […]
So, you’ve quit drinking and have now gone back to your old life. You wake up and do the same things you always do. Talk to the same people you always talk to. You watch the same shows you always watch. You eat the same diet and have the same thought about exercise that you’ve […]
It’s an established fact that alcohol is a depressant. When you drink alcohol, it hits certain receptors in your neurological system that dampens activity in the brain and causes a relaxed feeling in your entire body. It depresses feelings and emotions and allows you to feel like you don’t have a care in the world. Is that the alcohol that you remember? It was for me. If it sounds like a super drug, that’s because it is. Just because alcohol is socially acceptable, doesn’t mean that it’s not one of the most powerful drugs on the planet. It is so powerful in fact, that a person can die from the withdrawal. Alcohol pretends to love you so much that if you try and leave, it will try to kill you like a crazy ex!
There are three things that I would recommend while you’re recovering from addiction. Yoga, meditation, and ketosis. That’s right… ketosis. I am not trying to sell anyone on a ketogenic diet. I simply did a fair amount of research and found many benefits that have served me very well. When you stop eating processed sugars […]
A friend of mine was asking about the tagline on my site. “There’s way more going on in your head than there is in reality.” He thought it was kind of silly and didn’t really get what I meant even after I tried to explain it to him. So, instead of trying to find ways […]
The problem is with the word “only”, which you also used to described the way you stay sober. Using the phrase “the only way” takes people out of the game. It destroys objectivity and an ideology is born.
Why do we relapse? Hell, why do we ever start drinking at all? Alcohol is a social lubricant. It can take our personalities and launch them from being shy and quiet, to being outgoing and the life of the party and everything in between in two drinks flat. Nothing works better. It takes little to […]
